May 2 First Thursday Program -- Amy Ross, NASA’s Space Suit Design Process from Softgoods to Space

Ms. Amy Ross, our featured speaker this month, will share her knowledge and insights on what it takes to create a spacesuit from design through soft goods, to being functional suit in space.  Amy is currently the Technical Discipline lead for space suit pressure garments in the Crew and Thermal Systems Division at JSC. Prior to her current role, she served as the Exploration Extra-vehicular Mobility Unit (xEMU) Pressure Garment team lead and Space Suit pressure garment technology development lead.  She has also done work on the Z-2 prototype surface and exploration EVA suit development and testing, as well as on the Z-1 prototype.  Amy has also provided support for space shuttle suit gloves, launch and entry suit gloves, EVA tools for STS-100, and the Space Launch Initiative crew escape suit.

Amy joined NASA as a full-time employee in 1996, following several years as a cooperative education student.  She holds both a BS and MS in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University, as well as a Masters in Space Studies from the University of North Dakota.
